I remember years ago there was a big thing in Australia to do with fluoride in the water – it was affecting a whole generation's teeth – with yellowing and discolouration, and a build up of "something" on the surface of the teeth….needless to say, they stopped doing whatever they were doing

NickTamotor · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

Yes I know Its one way of getting rid of it,thats why I try not to use tap water and use filtered/bottled…there are some good recipes here dont you think?

TheAussieCookingShow · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

Thanks Hambo – I was everything!! From fruit & veg through to my rice – there's no telling what pesticides etc are on things these days, however with rice – if you don't wash it, the starch clings on and makes the rice sticky. This method produces beautiful fluffy rice – and I only ever use Basmati rice, just love the flavour/texture.

You know, I didn't know there was any alternative cover to plastic wrap – all I know (from experience) is never, never, never use aluminium foil…lol. I think any cover will be okay, so long as it prevents the steam from escaping…

Sorry – this is an older video which I just found – things have improved slightly sound-wise, but not sure what to do about the black border – looking into it now….

Have never cooked rice in the microwave, will have to try it. I did make the chicken wings and they were great, thanks.

Is there a way where you can remove the black "box" talk louder, maybe move the camera closer

TheAussieCookingShow · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

Our water is treated too – but I don't notice the change in taste of things…possibly different levels… The important part is really washing the starch off the rice before you cook it – but I'd use bottled water to cook it, tap water to wash it first?? Otherwise, you'd go through heaps of bottled water washing and cooking the rice.

NickTamotor · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

They put Flouride in our tap water here in the UK and it makes things taste funny sometimes..so I tend to steam veg and rice..I will try this with bottled water as it seems so easy

TheAussieCookingShow · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

Hey there, this is regular rice. Instant rice is already cooked and then preserved until you just heat it up…

ChefWannabe's Life · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

is this regular rice or instant rice?

TheAussieCookingShow · February 14, 2020 at 6:03 am

You're very welcome Tuckerzone – and I hope you look forward to a great week-end round the corner too. :o)
